Hello Everyone!
I've been reading a lot about Cory and Kopta for our exhibit going up of Hopi photographs. My brain is somewhat fried with all this information.
For whatever reason I thought it was very interesting that Emry Kopta had a wooden leg and walked with a stiff gait, he also sang kachina songs walking around Hopi. While his photographs are known and very informative, he was primarily a sculptor.
Kate Cory was an incredibly generous individual and while she did not have much herself, would give away what she did have to those she believed needed it more. For unknown reasons, the Hopi were very welcoming of her, giving her access to document traditional dances and the very real, everyday life of the Hopi people.
Just some fun facts to get things started before the Hopi festival coming up June 30 - July 1!!
Best,
Kiran!
